What can I do to make your move easier?
Moving is definitely not easy, but this section offers tips to make the whole experience easier, less trying, and less expensive.
Good planning is the key to a successful move.

Plan Ahead For Your Move
Counting Down to Moving Day:
It is really never too soon to begin planning for your move. Despite how much lead time you have there is always a very hectic day that awaits - moving day!
Six to Eight Weeks Before
Choose your mover and make arrangements for moving day. Begin packing the items in your attic, basement, storage shed, etc. that you do not expect to use over the next few weeks. Look for items that you may be donating to charity or selling before your move.
Four Weeks Before
Obtain a change-of-address kit from the post office and begin filling out the cards. Make arrangements for service disconnections/connections at your old and new addresses for utilities, phone, cable, newspaper delivery, etc. Remember to keep phone and utilities connected at your current home throughout moving day. Contact insurance companies (auto, homeowner's, medical and life) to arrange for coverage in your home. Start to pack items that you won't be needing in the next month. Plan that garage sale of unneeded items or arrange pick up of charity items. Arrange for the transfer of any service contracts such as hot water tank rental. Order a fill of your oil tank for just before closing.
One Day Before
Finish packing as much as possible, labelling room allocation on the boxes as you pack. Defrost your freezer and refrigerator. Block doors open so they can't accidentally close on any small children. Have your major appliances disconnected and prepared for the move. Pack a box of personal items that will be needed immediately at your new home. Have this box loaded last or take it with you in your car. Organize and set aside those things that you are taking with you so that they do not get loaded on the moving van in error.
Moving Day
Your moving company representatives arrive and begin work. Make sure someone is available to answer their many questions and also to state any concerns, preferences you have in regard to your move or any specific items being moved. Record utility meter readings. Read your bill of lading/inventory carefully before signing and keep all related paperwork until all charges have been paid and any claims have been settled.
